Priest Lake Elementary School

Dear Friends,

You may recall our campaign earlier this year to encourage our West Bonner County School Board (WBCSD) to run the much needed Supplemental Levy to keep our local schools open.  With your great help and influence, the Board did run the levy; however, it failed by a very narrow margin  primarily due to a highly misleading negative campaign.  And now our current  Board is refusing to re-run that levy, and instead are seriously considering the option of closing some of our schools, including our beloved Priest Lake Elementary!

The loss of our community grade school would be devastating for our kids and our entire community.  We need young families to anchor our communities and provide the many services we all desire.   Everyone knows that good schools are required to attract and hold young families.  Without a stable school district those people will have no other choice but to leave for the betterment of their children. .

But this is just one of the struggles we are currently having in our District,  and the future of our community is at critical mass right now!   We have a large group of radical zealots who apparently do not value education or the welfare of young families, and the are working diligently to control all of the school districts in North Idaho as well as getting into local and county governments.

This  highly funded political group has infiltrated our school board, gained the majority and  are now trying to hire an unqualified, UNCERTIFIED, and totally unsuitable candidate for superintendent, by the name of Brandon Durst.  Please take a few minutes and familiarize yourself with what is happening in the district.    We have included a link that will give you an outline of who he is. https://www.idahomoms7b.com/schools?fbclid=IwAR0RntxCx6K29F-oECaMRUJChZVqI3vG7OSBiiMDua22na6-YfL8wOn8o3M. We are also working hard to recall two undesirable members of the School Board and replace them with people  who truly have our community’s best interest in mind.

A growing number  of concerned Priest Lake and Priest River community members are coming together to help save our schools, and we are asking for everyone who loves this community to step up and help as well.  One resource that is proving invaluable in our quest is a local pact called “Idaho Moms”, who have signed on to help with social and print media campaigns to get the truth out.
We are asking three things of you right now:

1. Please write a letter or e-mail to our West Bonner County School Board, admonishing them to not emplace Brandon Durst as the Superintendent. ( By the way, it matters not if you are not an idaho resident for this part—if you reside here, have a recreational home, or simply care deeply for this wonderful community, your voice counts!)  Also, our own Zone 1 Trustee is MargaretHall@sd83.org .  and Margie has done an outstanding job of standing up for what is right and pointing out what is wrong with our current situations. Don’t hesitate to send her kudos!

 2.  Also demand that the Board hires Susie Luckey as our Superintendent.  Susie is our own local, highly educated, very qualified and has the certifications necessary to be our Superintendent.  She has spent her entire career working in our District (and has been the Principle at PLE as well!)  Susie always has our community’s kids best interest in mind!

3. Finally please donate to “Idaho Moms”to assist in our efforts to save our school district. All of your contribution will go to directly benefit our district.  Here is the link https://www.idahomoms7b.com/DONATE button is on the right side.

As always, thank you all so much for taking the time to help Priest Lake remain as the BEST best kept secret!  When we come together as a unified group, we can and do make a huge impact!  The County and the State listened to our Voice—and so will the School District!

If you have any questions or want further information please reach out.

Sincerely,

Ken & Allison Hagman
